Anti-Corruption prosecutors investigating the constitution of the Bankia bank

The Anticorruption Prosecutors, Alejando Luzón and Luis Rodríguez, are investigating possible crimes in the constitution of the Bankia bank, and has asked for information as soon as possible from the Bank itself, the Bank of Spain and the National Commission for Market Values. Eduardo Torres-Dulce, the Attorney General, told the EFE news agency that there ‘exists a social demand for the activities of the bank to be investigated’. He said that he had opened proceedings on May 28 to investigate the confirmation of determined situations in the process of constituting Bankia, which could have given rise to some indications of criminal acts. However he said it was ‘premature’ to declare what the possible charges would be investigated because the situation of the banks and the financial and economic situation of the country advises to be ‘extremely cautious’. Instruction Court 21 in Madrid has admitted the complaint placed by the Manos Limpias collective, but the prosecutors’ office thinks that the case should be investigated in the National Court. Meanwhile the 15-M indignant movement has collected money on the Internet to denounce Rodrigo Rato, the ex Chairman of Bankia.
