Two Britons Arrested After Returning To The Scene Of The Crime: Holidays in the Costa del Sol - Southport Visiter: "Two British men who allegedly held up a Spanish supermarket were arrested after returning to the shop to buy mobile top-ups.
Police swooped the OpenCor supermarket in Puerto Banus two days after the armed robbery took place.
Expats Matthew Daly and Daniel Rushton, both 25, were queuing for credit on their mobile phones when a stunned member of staff recognised the duo and called the police.
Armed officers plunged into action and arrested the pair, suspecting them to be the thieves in question.
The two masked bandits had threatened staff with a metal bar and a handgun at the store in the exclusive resort of Puerto Banus on the beautiful Costa del Sol.
The pair escaped with the contents of the till and electronic goods from the shop.
A police source said: 'The pair were recognised by their build and their eyes underneath the balaclavas.
'It beats us why a robber would return to the scene of the crime so soon afterward.'
When police officers searched the pair's home, they discovered two balaclavas which were allegedly worn by the robbers during the hold up.
The two male suspects appeared in court in Marbella and are being investigated on suspicion of involvement in several other armed robbery cases across the Costa del Sol.
So far neither man has been charged, however the two expats are being questioned by an investigating judge who will decide whether or not they should stand trial.
